Clinical Ophthalmology and PubMed

چکیده
Sunderland Eye Infirmary; University of Sunderland; University NewcastleUpon-Tyne. Queen Alexandra Road, Sunderland, UK Clinical Ophthalmology and PubMed Welcome to the 3rd edition of Clinical Ophthalmology in 2008. We hope you will enjoy the papers contained which are, as ever, drawn from the length and breadth of international eyecare research. This edition contains reviews from ‘Topical treatment options for conjunctival neoplasms’ (Kim and Abramson 2008) to ‘Fixed combination of topical brimonidine 0.2% and timolol 0.5% for glaucoma and uncontrolled intraocular pressure’ (Lee and McCluskey 2008). You can read original research papers on topics such as ‘Quantitative determination of glycosaminoglycans in tears of diabetic patients’ (Moschos et al 2008) or ‘Distribution of bacterial keratitis and emerging resistance to antibiotics in China from 2001 to 2004’ (Zhang et al 2008). We present a number of fascinating case reports including ‘Sudden unilateral visual loss after autologous fat injection into the nasolabial fold’ (Park et al 2008) and ‘Posterior capsule opacifi cation and neovascularization treated with intravitreal bevacizumab and Nd: YAG capsulotomy’ (Sánchez-Castro et al 2008). Being a relatively young journal, Clinical Ophthalmology is not currently indexed in all the major databases. This process takes time and not all journals make it onto these databases. It is perhaps not widely realized that the major biomedical databases such as PubMed have stringent quality criteria for new journals and that a publisher has to meet these before they can even submit a journal for consideration for inclusion. Not all journals submitted are accepted for indexing by PubMed so we are all the more delighted to announce that Clinical Ophthalmology has been accepted. This means that the papers in the journal will now be available searchable via Medline—the route most practitioners initially take when they are searching for papers. For the hard work that goes into making a successful journal and consequently a successful application I would like to thank all the staff at Dove Medical Press and in particular Tim Hill, Michael Baker, and Peter Fogarty. I would also like to thank the numerous authors who have submitted their work to the journal and who will now have their papers placed in PubMed. Without their high-quality papers our application would not have been successful.

The objective of the present study was to investigate the clinical and histopathological effects of intravitreal injection of pentoxifylline (PTX) the management of an experimental model of uveitis. Fifty-two rabbits were divided randomly into six intravitreal treated groups as below: 1) Balanced salt solution (BSS), 2) Salmonella typhimurium lipopolysaccharide endotoxin (LPS) + BSS, 3...
متن کاملClinical Applications of Optical Coherence Tomography in Ophthalmology
Assessment of the peripapillary nerve fiber layer and macular thickness can be determined in ophthalmology using optical coherence tomography (OCT). Decreased nerve fiber layer thickness and macular ganglion cell thickness in optic nerve ischemia have been correlated with visual field loss. OCT allows deep optic nerve head evaluation which helps understand pathophysiology of diseases. Furtherm...
